Men’s Update: 3 Key Trends for Fall ’17
What will men be wearing in 2017? Exhibitors at FFANY exhibited a mixed bag of trends. Here’s a look at some of the key styles dominating the men’s market, recently seen at FFANY.
Not all of men’s footwear is rigid and formal, and for Fall ’17 brands showed off bold new designs that can’t be ignored.
Jump previewed eye-catching high top sneakers featuring shiny metallic clasps, glistening all gold colorways and unconventional sculptural looks from molded inserts.
New brands like Loudmouth featured sneakers, loafers and boat shoes in outrageous repeating patterns like tropical fauna, paint splatter and orange flames for a style that’s a little less serious and more playful.
Hailing from Ukraine, Double Red previewed their military-inspired combat boots in colorways like crimson red and bold black and white camo for their #CrazyArmyColor collection that is far from than the G.I. tan.
Practical, function and undeniably masculine, almost all of the fall previews for men included a broad selection of boots.
A highlight among the boots were those by Equestrian brand Ariat’s lifestyle bran, Two24. Ariat injects its horseback riding DNA into this collection with western inspired Chelsea boots and pull on boots in luxurious leather uppers.
For Testosterone Shoes, boots are regularly best sellers for men, and for 2017 their selection includes unique detailing like slightly squared toes and navy contrast on their brown leather “Air Wing” ankle boots.
For Fall ’17, think classic menswear looks with athleisure-inspired constructions. Many men’s brands are experimenting with athletic details fall. While the athleisure trend is beginning to plateau, men still want sneaker comfort and functionality in all their shoes.
Take for example the Samuel Hubbard with their “Go To Work” collection. While the uppers were classically styled like their calf skin Chelsea boot, they feature a sneaker-like Vibram rubber outsoles and a memory foam insole.
Timberland showed off brogue boots with sneaker soles for 2017 and for the urban hiker, mid-height hiking boots with tech-type knitted white uppers.
Crocs previewed slip-ons with a gray technical-knit upper and sneaker outsoles, distinctly more athletic than their leisurely clog.
